Post-Wedding/30th Birthday Chop

Hi Hive! I'm taking a brief intermission from recap-land to show you my new hair. 5 months post-wedding and 1 week to my 30th birthday, I decided to go big. The shortest I've ever worn my hair is in a chin-length bob, and I really wanted to buzz it short, but I have big ears and know I would have regretted that as soon as I did it. (Oh, the foresight that comes with being 30!)

I love it the most when I take the time to flat-iron it, but it's pretty fun to play with, and fresh out of bed in the morning I have a bit of Charlie Sheen going on. Winning!

It is perfect for the island climate and I swear it only takes me 10 minutes from shower to finished. Know what else? I get to spend extra time with makeup, which is way more fun for me to do than hair! I think I may keep the shortie style for a minute-- it's making me feel shiny and new. And nothing feels better when you're turning 30 than feeling shiny and new.

Did you do a serious chop post-wedding chop? Love it or hate it?

My Secret Weapon

I have a confession to make.

I haven't posted at all regarding my wedding hair. It's not because I don't care about it, it's because I have an ace in my back pocket. With that comfort, I just plain haven't thought about it.

See this hair?

It was all styled by my MOH. Yes, my best friend is a professional stylist. This is not to say that I walk around with bomb-looking hair all the time, it just means that I get some A-list treatment on my wedding day. We were suppose to do a hair-trial when I spent last weekend in LA (which I meant to show you), but we were pressed for time and you know what, I just trust that we'll make it work.

We're doing something with a bang, choppy just above the eyebrows and tapering down, and some sort of mid/up-do in the back since I'd like my veil to come from underneath, not on top of my head. We may do a hair change when I change into my reception dress, but we'll leave that up to timing.

I'm so excited to see how it comes together! With a moniker like 'barrettes' I feel responsible for having cute wedding hair! I even found a sweet pair of orange barrettes that look like my icon =)

Did you have a secret weapon? Did that let you rest easy, or were you more anxious about it?

But he likes it short...

I found these hair-spiration images and immediately saved them to remind me why I'm growing my hair out. Whenever I start to have a little bit of growth past my shoulders, I suddenly have the urge to go back to my angled bob. The grass is always greener isn't it...

After I had washed and dried and flat-ironed my locks, and felt really happy with the end result (seriously, alcohol-free is good for the hair), Ryan says, "I really like when your hair is short. Its pretty that way." Ugghhhhhhhhh. I have been growing it out for the wedding because there is so much more you can do with more length, but how can I argue with that! He never tells me he likes my hair! (well, I suppose he just did-- and the winner is short.)

(the last time I angled my bob, Feb. 2010)

So therein lies the problem. I know ultimately the decision of how I want my hair to look on my wedding day is mine (and MOH's). I thought that years from now, when I'm looking at photos, I'd want to see long and healthy tresseses shining back at me. But lets be honest. I wouldn't wear my hair DOWN for the wedding. There would be some form of up-do. And we could use extentions for that. The only time I like wearing my hair down is when its short and framing my face.

Short or Long? Bangs or no Bangs? Does every bride lament this decision?
